Ways to Boost Your Income

Get your degree or a part-time job

Everyone wants to make more money, even if they’re already living comfortably. It has been said that people who are tall and good-looking tend to make more money than those who aren’t, but if you’re not interested in plastic surgery or calf extensions, you’ll have to figure out other ways to increase your salary.

If you work an hourly job and are able to work overtime, those extra hours are guaranteed to boost your salary. If you don’t want to put in terribly long hours, another great way to earn extra money is to pick up some certifications. If you’re an auto mechanic, for example, you can get certified in specific repair functions, such as collision repair or heavy truck repair, making yourself more valuable to your employer. If you’re an information technology specialist, you can get certified in dozens of different hardware and software applications to learn new skills and increase your chances of getting promoted. Online degree programs are a great way to learn more and get certified.

Another way to make more money is to figure out how to use your skills after hours. If you’re a teacher, put your athletic talents to work by coaching a team at school. If coaching isn’t your thing, but you have a background in journalism, you might be able to serve as a faculty advisor to your school’s newspaper or yearbook. Schools are full of student clubs and organizations that need leadership, and teachers are ideal for those roles. Teachers also can work through the summer, teaching summer school classes that enhance your paycheck or working at a retail store or in a restaurant while school is out.
